Proposed Projects

Please check here for the latest information on proposed improvements to our wonderful city!

At the May 6, 2023 Special Election, two (2) propositions were on the ballot.  Proposition A was to revitalize the city owned ball field into a community park/gathering area.  Proposition B was to revitalize the city owned ball field as a ball field.  The results of the election showed that the citizens wanted to renovate the field as a ball field.  Funding would be provided by Murchison EDC.  This issue will be discussed at the next City Council meeting June 13, 2023 to decide how to move forward.

At the June 13, 2023 City Council meeting, the City Council voted unanimously to move forward with revitalization of the Murchison ball field.  Stay tuned for more updates.

The Murchison EDC accepted Business Improvement Grant applications from Smith and Son's Tractor and Bee-Line Promotions for property improvements.  The Murchison City Council approved the funding at the June and July council meetings.    As required both projects were posted in the Athens Daily Review, Smith and Son's on 6/24/2023 and Bee-Line on 7/15/2023.  A public hearing was held to hear citizen input for the Smith and Son's Tractor project on 06/20/2023 with no attendees.  A public hearing will be held 07/25/2023 at 6pm at City Hall for citizen input on the Bee-Line project.  Neither project exceeds $7500.00.
